Gulf Coast Epilepsy Alliance {GCEA}

Welcome!

Gulf Coast Epilepsy Alliance is a non-profit organization that donors can trust to provide seizure education, community awareness and support, advocacy efforts and fund epilepsy research for new therapies.

After a five-year partnership with the Epilepsy Foundation Texas – Houston/Dallas-Fort Worth/West Texas (EFTX), we transitioned our Galveston County Epilepsy Awareness Support Group into a new non-profit organization; therefore, establishing GCEA in 2019 with the goal of improving the quality of life for people with epilepsy in the Gulf Coast areas of Texas.

Vision

GCEA's vision is to achieve a society where no person's life is limited by epilepsy.

Mission

GCEA's mission is committed to working for and meeting the needs of everyone with epilepsy, their families and their caretakers in the Gulf Coast areas of Texas.

Strategic Plan

We aim to protect and maintain existing services and activities, while also developing in new directions to ensure we continue to meet the needs of people with epilepsy, their families and their caretakers in the Gulf Coast areas of Texas. We have identified six Strategic Aims which together form the framework for GCEA’s Plan.

Our Strategic Aims:

  1. Providing support and information services;
  2. Communicating, raising awareness and advocating about epilepsy and SUDEP - Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy;
  3. Providing training and education to save lives;
  4. Undertaking and supporting epilepsy research to find a cure;
  5. Raising the necessary funds for our organization
  6. Maintaining best-practice standards in our governance, quality and financial management.

What is Sam's Law?

Making Texas Schools Safer:

Sam's Law (HB 684), requires all Texas public school personnel whose duties include regular contact with students to be trained in seizure recognition and seizure first aid.

People who interact with children with epilepsy on a daily basis need to be trained to care for them if they have a seizure.

Sam's Law ensures that Texas public schools are well-equipped with the tools necessary to provide a safe and enriching environment.
